What is Archetypal Astrology?

Archetypal astrology is a branch of astrology that emphasizes the symbolic and mythic dimensions of the astrological planets, signs, and aspects. It seeks to understand how these cosmic patterns mirror the archetypal forces within the human psyche. This approach to astrology is deeply rooted in the idea that celestial bodies represent universal archetypes—fundamental psychological patterns that shape human experiences, emotions, and behaviors.

Using Jungian Principles to Study Archetypal Astrology:

Jung believed that the collective unconscious is a repository of shared human experiences and archetypes. By studying archetypal astrology, we can access these deep layers of the psyche and understand how they influence individual and collective behavior.

Each planet, sign, and aspect in astrology can be viewed as an archetype. For instance, Mars represents the archetype of the Warrior, embodying qualities of assertiveness, aggression, and drive. Jungian psychology places great importance on myths as expressions of the archetypes. In Astro Herbalism, each planet is associated with specific qualities, energies, and archetypes. The association between plants and astrology is established based on various factors, including the plant's characteristics, medicinal properties, folklore, and historical uses. For example, plants with fiery qualities, such as cinnamon or ginger, are often linked to the Sun or Mars due to their stimulating and invigorating properties. Previous knowledge about Tarot is required for enrolment on this course: you will need to know about Tarot meanings and basic 3 card reading skills. It is not a beginners course.

In myth, the only place duality and separation exist is in the visible world. In the eternal realm, from which the physical world emanates there is no separation whatsoever, only oneness, the whole.

‍

Driven by the Self’s will to be fully realised, the unconscious always seeks to be known. As the conscious mind is completely unaware, we encounter our soul-image, craving our recognition, continually: most commonly in romantic relationships. Unknowingly, many (perhaps most) people are attracted to those who most closely resemble their anima/us.

But because the anima/us resides deep in the unconscious realm, we rarely have any inkling at all that our perspective partners often embody the lost aspects of ourselves. Instead, we meet someone and simply react. If this dynamic had an anthem, it would surely be the love song from Sleeping Beauty (1959):

Carl Jung had never directly mentioned the tarot in any of his works, but it’s easy to find information between the concepts that he built and the tarot. One of his greatest contributions to the theory of the psyche is was that of the archetypal images and the collective unconscious, which is the foundation from which the tarot draws upon.

The collective unconscious was the name that Jung gave to the ocean of symbols and archetypes from which we derive human narratives, and the transcendental material of the Tarot.

In the Four Modules, you will dive in every possible meaning, symbol, interpretation, history, archetypal investigation of each card of the Major Arcana. This is the most complete Study of their Symbolism, we will combine different Sciences and Cultural Perspectives, with a basic study of Jungian life, theory and working practice.‍
